Hypnosis – Myth or Magic?
Hypnosis isn’t about clucking like a chicken—it’s about calming the mind, releasing emotional burdens, and choosing healing from within.
Today, I want to have a little fun while addressing a question I get all the time: “Is hypnosis real, or is it just people barking like dogs on stage?”
Let’s clear that up.
There is a world of difference between stage hypnosis and clinical hypnotherapy. Stage hypnosis, like what my dear friend Michael Mezmer performs with charm and magic, is all about entertainment. It’s fun, it’s flashy—and yes, it’s real. But it’s done with willing volunteers who give their permission to participate.
Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is deeply personal. In my sessions, there’s no spotlight—just a safe recliner, gentle guidance, and the healing power of your own subconscious mind. As a clinical hypnotherapist with over 25 years of experience, my goal is to help clients release emotional burdens, calm anxiety, and reset limiting beliefs.
I was trained by the late Gil Boyne, founder of Rapid Induction and one of the great pioneers of this work. He could simply greet you and with a gentle handshake, guide you into a hypnotic state. That state isn’t sleep—it’s a heightened form of awareness. One where the conscious mind softens, and the subconscious steps forward to do what it knows how to do: heal.
Hypnotherapy doesn’t cure neurological conditions like ADHD, but it can support symptom relief—such as easing anxiety, improving focus, and building confidence. It’s powerful work. But always with your permission. Always in your control.
Many clients come to me holding onto past trauma, emotional weight, or self-doubt. Through breathwork, visualization, and subconscious healing, we walk together toward peace. I’ve seen people transform their lives—not through magic, but through intentional healing.
So if you’re wondering whether hypnosis is real—the answer is yes. But not in the way you may think. It’s not about being “under.” It’s about going within.
And remember: healing isn’t about forgetting your pain—it’s about releasing its hold on you, so you can finally feel free.
Additional Tools
HealWithin also offers audio recordings for sleep, stress reduction, and self-esteem.

Can I Hypnotize Myself?
Yes, it’s called self-hypnosis. Hypnotherapy empowers you by providing tools to manage stress in your daily life. You can learn self-hypnosis techniques, enabling you to enter a state of relaxation whenever needed. These techniques can be practiced at home, allowing you to take control of their stress levels independently. My audio recordings can help guide you.
Self-hypnosis is so powerful that I have undergone several dental surgeries without anesthesia or painkillers. You can see me on YouTube having dental surgery with only self-hypnosis.

My Recommended Audio Recording
I have made audio recordings for self-hypnosis specifically to address certain issues. I recommend the Build Confidence and Stress No More recordings. Download the recording and save it to your device for listening. Find a quiet and comfortable place as you allow hypnosis to happen.

Greetings Greetings and welcome to Heal Talk Tuesday’s
It’s so good to be here with you and today we’re going to have a little fun together.
Sit back and let’s dive into something both light and insightful.
You know, I’ve been thinking about a lot of questions that come to me.
So many are writing me, messaging me, DM me, now
that I am on the radio on Sunday nights at 10pm.
Why do I catch me every Sunday night at 10pm?
I am live on in a radio station and it is real talk, 870.
So it’s real talk with Liza.
And I do my Heal Talk Tuesdays right here with you and
this has been going on over six and a half years, right?
So a part of insight, it’s almost the same thing in yet a little bit different.
So if you want to be on my show on Real-Talk with
Liza on Sunday nights, especially if you are local,
by how many people let me know, there’s a whole process applying for it.
I’m getting everyone is saying I want to be on your
show and it’s so beautiful being at the station.
Going there and the engineers are there, there’s someone taking my calls.
So it’s really a professional, beautiful place to be.
Anyhow, so today we’re going to be talking
about something that I got a beautiful message.
And we’re going to be talking about the myths about hypnosis and hypnotherapy.
If you don’t know who I am, by all means,
as a professional, in the work that I do,
I was trying to see how do I introduce myself
since I think everybody already knows me.
By the work that I do professionally, I’m a clinical hypnotherapist.
Here’s my signatures.
Clinical hypnotherapy, stress management, and domestic abuse consulting.
So the clients who come to me, they come major mostly for hypnotherapy sessions.
That’s my one-on-one.
Plus I have written some books. You can
always go to my website, to the products page,
see all the books that I have written,
self-published, yes, and been published by others.
And I have 12 audio recordings from relaxing to
releasing stress from releasing pain, working
with your menopause, hypnobirthing, and so
many more, especially with cancer and all that.
Why am I saying that? Because so many are asking me about what is the
difference between hypnosis, on stage, and hypnotherapy that I do?
Well, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about that, especially when
someone says, “Is it barking like a dog or cracking like a chicken?” No!
That is, even stage hypnotherapists don’t do that anymore.
The bar has gone so much higher.
The stage is elevated to higher places.
Now there is magic and everything that is included.
As a matter of fact, I have a wonderful friend of mine, Michael Mesmer,
and he does stage hypnosis with magic and everything else, right?
And of course, everyone goes into hypnosis, like that.
I have another friend of mine, Master all, and he
does hypnosis, but his specialty is he’s a mentalist.
An amazing thing.
I have friends and colleagues who are in extreme hypnosis,
and they do extreme work in pain management, and someone
is in working with drug and addiction and everything,
because now we’re going into the therapy part of it, right?
Actually, our master hypnotist, Gil Boyne, where I studied with
and I graduated over 25 years ago, he was the person who was the
founder of Rapid Induction, and he would say, “Hello, and shake
your hand and drop you into that state of hypnotic state.”.
Now, hypnotic state does not mean you are hypnotized, but it
is the transference of that moment of your consciousness, and
that shifts to you letting go by passing the conscious, analyzing,
judging, criticizing factor to drop into a relaxed state.
And then once that rapid induction happens, which is absolutely
a beautiful thing, and you see most of that on stages,
that’s when the hypnosis comes in, and then they take you into
a deeper state of relaxation, and it is all for entertainment.
I want you to know that.
Now, stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy, doing
therapy through the element tools and techniques
of hypnosis, which is a deep state of relaxation,
they all have to have one thing in common.
And you know what that is? It is called your consent, your
permission. Nothing ever happens without your permission.
So, when you go up on stage, volunteering to get
up on stage is giving permission to be hypnotized.
Coming to my office, you’re giving permission to be hypnotized.
So, here’s the deal.
The hypnotist is working with volunteers, and yes,
they do some fun, silly things, and everything.
But healing hypnosis, when we do hypnotherapy, it’s a whole
different vibe. It’s in my office sitting at the recliner, and it’s
helping you to relax and release the emotional weight, emotional
burdens, shifting mindset, and reset from the core, which is the
tapping into the subconscious. Now, I may use
tapping, which I am trained in. I may use NLP,
which is neurolinguistic technique. I may use
hypnotic techniques, and those are all techniques.
So, I mean, if I had a dollar for every time someone asked me, if I
could make them dance like it chicken, quack like a duck, I’d be well.
Probably can buy a chicken farm. Yes, but that is not what I do.
So, if you’ve ever wondered what hypnosis could be like, it’s like me
helping you release emotional baggage and increase your confidence.
That is what I do. Here’s the thing.
The question was, can hypnotherapy cure ADHD in neurological
disorders? This is one of the messages that I got. And my answer is,
no hypnotherapy does not cure neurological disorders, but it can
help the symptoms, such as RSD, anxiety, fears, even confidence,
especially relationships, and also dealing with social anxiety. So, that’s
one. Can hypnosis do the things that I want to do? No. Because when you are in
a state of hypnosis, if you are upon stage, they do, if you usually see that
some people get eliminated because the hypnotist, the master hypnotist, the.
State hypnotist, is checking to see who is
more susceptible to entertain and have fun and
the ones who are not being hypnotized ever so
wonderfully and fast, they are asked to leave.
So, you will never do anything that is against your morals, ethics, or the things
that you don’t want to do. And most probably if you are not already off the
stage, if someone asks you to do something and you don’t want to, you’ll probably
just sit there and laugh at other people because you are aware and yet not.
Once you leave the stage and once the stage hypnotist brings everyone to
full-conscious awareness, you are out of hypnosis. Unless he is giving,
continuing the stage hypnosis and the show continues by him saying, when you
go and sit there for the next three minutes, this is what’s going to happen.
And when I do snap my finger or ring a bell, you’ll
start laughing. And that means he has targeted
someone with a message. And once that is finished,
he will clear and I’m saying he because most
stage hypnotists that I know of are male and but that’s not true because
Pat Collins, the hip hypnotist, she used to be one of the most famous
hypnotherapist and stage hypnotists that I know of and that was oh my
god, like I’m talking about 30 years ago right here in Los Angeles.
And she was quite famous in Hollywood and in certain clubs and everything.
Now, what illnesses? So we’re clear with that. You’re cleared.
You’re out of hypnosis even when I work with my clients.
By all means if this is interesting to you, I want you to let you know
and everything. What happens here in my office when they come in and
we sit here after our initial session or something like that, I usually
take them into a state of relaxation, which is it can be just you.
And you are feeling absolutely wonderful and relaxed. Sitting in my recliner, excuse
me, you relax and you close your eyes and you’re listening to the sound of my voice.
Excuse me.
So this is my maybe podcast voice. This is when I get excited. This is when I
am speaking and everything as you see, I’m very ends on and very animated right.
But it’s a whole different shift the moment I start working with
my clients. I am totally centered. My focus is only on them.
And once the session begins, my hypnotic voice
changes. So this is the voice that I go into.
I begin the state and the state of relaxation for
my client ever so gently guiding them, which is you,
to a deeper state of relaxation, relaxing them from
the top of their head all the way down to their toe.
Realizing that every nerve and every muscle, every organ, every
tissue, every cell, every molecule in your body gets to relax.
As a point of effect, although you can hear everything that I say, you become so
relaxed that you allow yourself to be
guided into a different state of relaxation.
Now, with each and every breath that you breathe in,
bringing oxygen and vitality through your nostrils.
And as you swallow your saliva, relaxing and drifting deeper within.
Now, I’m going to stop right there, pause for you to understand.
That is how I begin the relaxation. As a matter of fact, if you have
downloaded any of my audio recordings, you will also hear that hypnotic voice.
Now, let me shift back to my regular voice right here.
Understanding that hypnosis is nothing but self hypnosis. You
allow yourself, you guide yourself with my help to that level.
Yesterday, one of my clients who came in here, I don’t
know, I’ve worked a lot with intuition as well, as I am
relaxing him to a deeper state to release anxiety, to calm
him so that he can feel calmer, more relaxed during the day.
So, triggers are not triggering him, things are not pushing his button.
And he does not go into that state of
agitation as fast or has more control, right?
Not knowing anything, I begin guiding him so that he can imagine in
his mind, in his imaginary mind, in that state of relaxation, like
after 20 minutes, I guide him knowing that he loves the ocean and
the beach and everything to walk on the beach side, along the shore.
And as the waves are coming, he immerses himself in his imaginary mind.
And the subconscious is now elevated and the conscious mind
is in the back and the subconscious mind is doing the walk.
So, as I ask him, he’s imagining himself right there at the beach side that he knows
of. You see, we take you to where you know and where you get to where we get to work.
Healing trauma, healing anxiety, healing pain, reducing anxiety,
reducing pain, it can be at either. There is never a cure, but reduction.
So, you can be in control of the full pain factor,
anxiety, releasing it, or holding onto it for a reason.
That’s why there is no cure because you have a choice, as
hypnotherapists, we guide you to that level for you to be in charge.
So, back again to his walking on the beach shore and his feet.
He’s imagining everything. Why? Because I see his eyes are doing this.
So, I am looking at his what we call Eye Catalepsy
and is it opening, is it stretching, is it seeing?
So, as I am watching his physicals reaction to what he
is imagining, I take him into a deeper state and make
him more focused with the sand, the witness of the sand,
because your imaginary world is absolutely amazing.
So, the sound of the waves, the water coming on top of his
feet, all the way to his ankle, and nothing above his ankle.
And I don’t know where I came up from, that
you’re as you’re doing this, you have already
rolled up your pants, and your feet is, you’re
touching the sand, the water and everything.
So, allow me to say this, that took about 45 minutes, and while he’s
walking on that, we’re going into a deeper calmness, so that all the
pebbles, all the rocks, all the challenges, all the anxieties and things
that trigger him gets washed away into the ocean, while he keeps walking.
And then more and more and more. Now, that entire
thing, he was probably sitting here over an
hour and 15 minutes, because my sessions are
approximately 75 minutes to an hour and a half.
When I brought my client to full conscious awareness,
he had this amazing face of pure calmness smile.
And then after a minute, takes a sip of his water, and he
says, “May I show you something?” And I said, “Of course.”.
Takes the phone, and shows me a video of him walking on a beautiful
beachside. His pants are rolled up to his knees, right below his knees.
And he’s showing his feet and the water coming ever
so gently, the waves coming on top of his feet.
And he’s saying, “I could feel the coldness, I could
feel my feet as if I am walking at the beachside.”
And I released so many things from the time that
I was young, from the time that I was in college.
So I was helping release a lot of burdens and challenges and letting go, so that the
ocean can take it into the deepest reservoir
for him to feel light and grounded and safe.
You see, you may ask how many treatments this may take. I don’t
know. Most of my clients come in for approximately 4-8 sessions.
Stop smoking can be done if you are ready in 4 sessions. Wait, I have a program
which is stand up to slim down because you have to stand up for yourself.
And there is about confidence, about
acknowledging why you’re holding on to the yoyo.
Why you’re going through a yoyo weight
releasing, gaining, releasing, gaining, right?
So it’s not all about food, it’s all about holding
on to what is your body, how is your body reacting.
So there’s all this, the psychology of food, psychology of your
body image, psychology of you looking in the mirror, everything.
So I don’t know how many treatments per person until you come in and we
discover, we go through this together and we plan what needs to be done.
So it can be as fast as few sessions or as long as several sessions.
A question was, do I forget everything when I’m in hypnosis? No, you do not
because you hear everything. And yet you are in a deep state, in your own state.
And it’s not like you’re going through an amnesia, but when you
awaken, you know and you heard and you are aware of so much.
And yet you are so deeply profound state of relaxation. You go in and out of hypnosis
every single day. You sit in the car, you get
somewhere and I’ve said this over and over.
It’s the most magical thing. You are your internal GPS. Your internal body,
every nerve, every muscle, every organ, every tissue knows how to heal.
You cut, you kiss, you put a bandaid and then a week later, you know you did
it, you got to cut, you just don’t realize where because your skin has healed.
That spot is no longer there. Makes sense? The healing of that has gone, but
the memory that you cut it will always remain there. You know you did it.
And that is exactly what trauma of your past is. If you hold on
to it, you’re holding on. What is it that you’re holding on to?
That’s why triggers state. Let go of the triggers. Keep it as a memory,
but does not have to stay with you. That’s how we heal. There is no cure.
So, I mean, there’s a lot of questions that I
can answer. And one thing I want you to make
sure is that you are never out of control.
Actually, you are more in control than ever before.
Because at any time, during a hypnosis or an therapy
session, you choose, you can choose to open your
eyes and say, “I’m done and get out of the room.”
No one has locked you. You are in full control.
So, if you have any questions by all means, let me know. Thank you. Yes.
I’m thinking if I had a quote, what would it be? You know, I, my guests,
I asked my guests, finish this sentence and I asked them to say something.
And what I like to say is that the most profound way
of I know, because I healed through hypnotherapy and
this has become my life’s work to impact more people
in healing within, in becoming stronger and better,
and overcoming their habits that no longer serve
them and healing. So, then you can show up in life.
And I know it’s actually straight as the best version of yourself, but
who you want to be, so that you can stand up for yourself and speak.
You have a voice. You have the right to speak. You know,
trauma, abuse, things that happen for some, not everybody.
When we are not speaking, when we are afraid, when we feel
shame, or we are told, if you speak it, no one will believe you.
If you say something, you are going to shame the family, so
might as well be silent. Those are the things that linger
on in your body that energetically, emotionally, physically
affect you throughout your adult life until you release it.
Now you can journal it. There is a part that we call it the
left brain. If you are right-handed, take a sheet of paper.
And when you’re left-hand, which is the opposite of your dominant
hand, take a pen and on a piece of paper and start writing.
In the beginning, it’s going to be so difficult, so difficult to write
with your other hand. Unless you know how to write with both hands.
So it’s like the dyslexic. We see things. From backwards, I
see things up and down. I can read things backwards so easily.
That’s why sometimes I don’t know if I am reading
it wrong because I’m reading it backwards.
So do this. Take a sheet of paper. If your right hand is dominant
with your left hand, start writing your name. First your name. Become
comfortable with your name because you know your name, your
subconscious knows your name, and it is the most powerful thing to say.
Your name, your name, I am 40. I matter. I can.
I will. I feel. If you start saying I will,
I can. You’re opening the vortex, the channels
of internal energy validating who you are.
Because this is all about you. We’re not talking about anybody
else’s story. It’s all about you. So do that. Take that sheet of
paper and start writing your name and then all the eyes. Release
a lot of things. If you keep practicing this three minutes a day.
Everything about what I do is three minutes a day.
It will be the most profound way of self therapy.
